Middlesex Ccc Bowler ‘Inn’ As Union Flourishes

Windsor, Berkshire, UK | It’s a name that has been synonymous with the villagers of Old Windsor for years, but visitors to The Union Inn can now expect to be bowled over following the extensive refit of one of the Royal Borough’s best local eateries.

Under the new managerial direction and co-ownership of former Middlesex CCC seam bowler Tim Bloomfield, The Union Inn offers an array of exquisite and traditionally finely prepared British cuisine, while enabling its guests to rejoice in the ambience and intimate comforts of the Inn’s newly upholstered boutique Copper Pot Restaurant. Such is the transformation, there’s not a crease in sight.

Bloomfield said: “After acquiring the business in its rustic state in late 2008, it was important that we enabled to Inn to retain much of its original rural features, but with the modern sophistications and contemporary soft furnishing of a thriving city establishment.

“Whilst it would have been easier to adopt a more sporting theme for the bar and restaurant, I wanted to create the right environment to welcome families, business professionals and well as other social gatherings. To date, I feel that we have been able to marinade the best of a flourishing country retreat with that of a more urban south coast resort,” he added.

The Union Inn has already received a four-star rating from the English Tourist Board, which Bloomfield regards as a “huge achievement” in less than 12 months.

Capped at Lords the same day as Andrew Strauss, and having played against the likes of the infamous Waugh brothers [Australia] during his career, Bloomfield believes that the business has benefited from his own foreign cricket exchanges, which has enabled him to draw on some of his more memorable dining experiences from around the world.

“You can’t be complacent in business,” says Bloomfield. “Everyone expects a level of service, which is why the staff at Union Inn go the extra mile to create a friendly atmosphere, so that guests receive a positive experience and will want to re-book again and again.”
