Is this againt the teaching of Buddhism?Some of the Thai monks sell Buddha amulets to make money?

as a monk, as a vinaya law, no monk has right to do any business which profits oneself. it is said even if things belong to you (monk) and somebody has borrowed it, you can ask three time and if they dont give back, you have to forget it. traditionally there are three types of monk, a full ordained monk who holds 253 vows, novice monk who holds 10 vows are not allow to sell anything to make money. but third monk which known as lay monk can do selling for the benifit of the temple. it was happen during the buddha's time that somebody has offer some golds to some full ordained monks and since monks are not allow to touch gold. then these tradition of selling those gold by lay monk has happened.

so it was like that from my point of view but since vinaya vows were created according to the society so it depends. until society has no problem and thinks its ok to sell something to make money for the temple. then who the held are we to give the judgement? hehehe LOL
if there is problem then it has to cease like thai monk smoking.

you know for 12 years after buddha form sanga there were no vows. one by one came later and also some became exception in those time too. so it depends the intention of those monk who sells and society.
