Chinese Astrology Compatibility To Occidental Astrology

For those who know and understand astrology as a human interpretation of how the stars and planets affect life on earth, they have become accustomed to viewing their own astrological signs in the form of a symbol. In Chinese astrology compatibility of symbols, to universal astrology symbols, isn't derived from the same astrological wheel that universal astrology students are familiar with.

The core principle of both universal and Chinese astrology are to identify personality traits based on the timing of a person's birth. In universal astrology this timing is based on precise mathematics. In fact, the timing of one's birth is so important in universal astrology that recording even a fifteen minute difference, in birth time, can lead to an entirely different interpretation of a person's astrological birth chart. The place of birth is also important and is interpreted by longitude and latitude. Universal astrology finds great comfort in the use of mathematics to interpret a person's personality traits.

It would appear that Chinese astrology chooses to observe longer periods of time to make their interpretations, while Occidental forms of astrology use much shorter periods. Possibly, if one could put the two forms of astrology together in a cohesive manner, a new interpretation could be discovered. In fact, many people have been trying to put the two forms of astrology together for quite some time.

Many of us have often heard people describe themselves through their Sun Sign. Someone born between the latter portion of July through the middle portion of August may say, "I am a Leo. A Lion!" The person identifies his or her personality with the traits of a Lion, which has fondly been referred to as The King of the Jungle. Therefore, many Leos tend relate their personalities to the qualities strength and leadership. From a completely simplistic stance, it becomes easier for the Leo remember 'who they are', in astrological terms, because the image of The Lion helps them identify with their Sun Sign's qualities.

Even with so much having been written about Chinese astrology, less is actually known of its true origins. Many of us have become familiar with understanding that the Chinese New Year occurs on a calendar that is different than the Julian calendar that the rest of the world uses. Each Chinese New Year reigns in a new year and a new symbol for the people who will be born during that period on the Chinese calendar. For instance, on the Chinese lunar calendar, the year 2010 is depicted as the year of the "metal tiger".

Chinese astrology is as complex as universal astrology, but even though so much has been written about it, many people have yet to understand its full complexity. As with universal astrology, simple symbols tend to define certain characteristics of persons born under a certain 'sign', yet in order to completely understand the deep value that can be derived from either forms of astrology, a person must become a student for many years.

While Occidental astrology also uses longer periods of time, known as 'transits', to interpret the comings and goings of people and events here on earth, clearly defining and illustrating Chinese astrology compatibility to Occidental astrology is an ongoing practice. Just as we use information that is century's old in our view of astrology today, it is not unlikely that by studying each form of astrology, we will be supplying future generations with vital research that may make it easier for them to understand themselves at a deeper and more meaningful level.
