Spiritual Growth With The Tarot - 4, THE EMPEROR
THE EMPEROR sits upon his gray stone throne in an out-of-door location. The throne is ornamented with rams' heads. He seems to be seated near a cliff. Behind him are gilded mountains against an orange sky. Far below him is what looks to be a river (the stream of consciousness). Upon his head, he is wearing a golden diadem adorned with crimson and green gems. A reddish cloak partly covers up his iron armor. In his right hand, he has a gilded wand, topped off with the symbol of Venus and, in his left, he holds a largish golden ball. He's a noble figure and seems to be in absolute control.
THE EMPEROR represents the self-conscious mind and, thence, "reason", as that is what self-consciousness performs. That being stated, I have in each of these reports up to now, addressed our "unity" with the Universal Mind, the divinity, God. I have spoken about it as an recognized truth which, to me, it is, however I have not qualified it in any way. This feels like a good time to establish my "reasoning" for these assertions.
Every religious belief in the world has its creation narrative. The Christian Bible commences with the phrase, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Surely there MUST have been a beginning of some sort at some point in time. Prior to this commencement there was NOTHING--except the God-Force, the Universal Mind. That must have been the case, because something never comes out of nothing. Therefore, as there was nothing but God Itself at this point in time, the only useable "stuff" with which to establish this cosmos comprised the material which was Itself, God-stuff. God had to have used thought-energy and commuted it into matter-energy. Therefore, everything in the universe, in all the universes, including you and I, was constructed not just BY God but OF God. Consequently, the God-Self has to make up our essence and, although we feel as if we are individual entities, at some level, we MUST be a component part of the creation. And, at the God-level, we are co-creators of our experience in our world. It only stands to "reason."
As THE EMPRESS symbolizes productive imagination, THE EMPEROR reminds us that, without rationality, the imagination is given to run wild, influenced by our momentary emotions, intuitive feelings and thoughts. If we're to employ our mental imagery to create all the beneficial things in our life experience, we have to reason out precisely what it is which we desire and, still more significantly, what we DO NOT want.
When we are crystal clear about our desires, our wishes and needs, we need to center our imagination powerfully on these things. Whenever we begin to be aware that we're utilizing our imagination to bring about the things we don't desire - if we begin to worry - we have to instantly delete those ideas and imaginings and replace them with mental images of the things we prefer to experience in our lives. And, reason is the key, here. Keep an eye on what we think about, reason it out, and employ our constructive imagery positively. The key is this: We can't stop creating our reality; it comes about automatically. We produce whatever receives the most of our attention. It simply stands to reason that we should take charge of where our attention and imagination goes.
When you meditate upon THE EMPEROR, use it to remind yourself that, in order to employ your imagery to create favorable things in your life experience, you must take charge of your imagination and apply your logical thinking to consciously determine what you will bring about in your life. This is an essential Soul lesson for us to learn.
