Counting My Blessings As A New Grandma
I don't usually feel very old but today was a little different. You see my daughter just told me she was expecting. Yes, my first grandchild is on its way. I knew this day would come but you never know how you are going to react until it happens.
It seems like yesterday the summer baby monitor was going and I could hear my now twenty five year old daughter cooing peacefully in her crib. Wow, where did the time go? She will now be the one listening and I thought to myself with a smile how happy I was for her for what she is about to experience.
The months go by quickly as I watch my beautiful daughter grow up as she prepares for the new arrival of her new little one. She is excited and happy and nervous all at the same time. I totally know how she feels and assure her that every new mom feels this way.
She will know someday, like I do now, that it is just part of the process. The not knowing is stressful but you have to trust that it will be okay. It is a big responsibility to bring a life into the world and it can mess with your mind making you wonder if you are good enough.
Near the end of the pregnancy I decided to throw her a baby shower. It was fun picking out all the decorations and preparing the games for the party. The invitations were a pretty baby blue with little yellow accents and I looked forward to throwing it as I wrote out the invitations.
She wanted to go to the baby store and register for the shower. I remember going with my mom and was excited to take her. She found a cute set of baby bath towels with monkeys on the hood to go with her jungle theme of a nursery and other practical items such as a Graco car seat for the big day that my grandson would come home from the hospital.
Now that the blessed time is almost here it is time for the final touches. My son in law in setting up the crib just as my husband did for me. We are making sure there are all the necessary items that are needed for her new little bundle that will be here any minute. And before you know it we are waiting at the hospital while she is delivering
Sitting in a rocker now at my grandson's first Christmas I am so proud of my daughter. As he falls asleep in my arms I realize what a joy it is to be a grandmother. What a precious gift this is and I look forward to watching him grow.
