Kwan Yin The Deity Of Mercy
More commonly referred to as the Goddess of mercy, Kwan Yin is considered to be an immortal by the Chinese Taoists. Kwan Shih Yin is her full name and it means “Observing the sounds of the World”.

Kwan Yin is also known in different names such as the “The Bodhisattva of Compassion”, “The Gentle Protector” and “The Savior of Seamen and Fishermen”. No matter what she is called, Kwan Yin was always believed to represent absolute love and compassion.

Kwan Yin is a singular Spirit that is comprised of a very complex spiritual presence. Kwan Yin symbolizes the Chinese title of the goddess that has the compassion of a mother. This quality is believed to have caused Kwan Yin to acquire a deep concern with the people who are in need.

People who are suffering from sickness, weakness and fear seek the help of Kwan Yin. It is said that even though Kwan Yin is merciful towards men, she is more concerned with the children especially the infants.

Kwan Yin is also approached by couples with fertility issues so that she can gift them with a child; this is how she got the title as the “giver of children”.

People say that Kwan Yin tends for the souls of people from their birth up to their death. Legends suggest that Kwan Yin is the one who sends the newborn children into their parents’ hands. The Goddess of Mercy has spread her influence throughout the eastern countries such as China, Korea, Japan and Malaysia. As a matter of fact, these countries have temples that feature Kwan Yin deities and images.

The concept of believing in the Kwan Yin is also part of the Buddhist faith. The reference to this was dated around 400AD. During those times, Buddha was already worshipped for a thousand years. In that era, the Indian Buddhism brought the concept of the Bodhisattva of Compassion to China.

Kwan Yin was thought to be a male god at first, but it didn’t take long and they changed the form into a female figure.

Kwan Yin was depicted to be a beautiful Goddess with flowing robes in 1200 AD. In several illustrations, Kwan Yin is described as a Goddess with many arms and hands. The hand is illustrated to have an eye in each palm. This is an implication that the Goddess of Mercy is keeping watch on everyone. She is also known to be Buddha’s right eye.

There are a lot of people who believes that Kwan Yin is the personification of Amithaba Buddha. Some people believe that the Kwan Yin came into flesh during the 700BC in the person of Chinese princess Mao Shan.

Regardless of name Kwan Yin’s origins are, all of the people who believe in here have the same idea that Kwan Yin is a symbol of kindness, pure energy, enlightenment and rebirth. Though most people only view Kwan Yin as a mythical figure, many still worship her as a living presence.

Kwan Yin is the Goddess who answers to the calls of the people who are in need. She lifts the sorrow in the hearts of humanity and fills it up with serenity.
