Are Chinese Herbal Remedies Good For Eczema?

many people these days have become disillusioned with conventional treatments for eczema and turn to more natural remedies such as Chinese herbs. There is a long history of Chinese herbs being used in the treatment of chronic skin diseases. Chinese herbal medicine, part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is an ancient system that sees all illness and disease as an imbalance and disharmony of the body's energy system. How do Chinese herbal remedies work?

The philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the theories of yin and yang and the five elements. Yin and yang theory sees everything in two opposite aspects such as cold and heat, internal and external, stillness and movement. The five elements are water, earth, metal, wood and fire. Each element relates to different internal organs and to different tastes. The five tastes are sweet, sour, bitter, salty and pungent.

Herbs are chosen according to whether the patient is suffering from a disharmony of yin, yang and the five elements. The practitioner will take note of whether the disharmony is hot or cold in nature, an internal or external disease and what organs are effected. Only then will the practitioner be able to choose the most suitable herbal remedies to treat the problem.

According to TCM, eczema is due to different factors. Wind-heat or wind-damp invades the body and causes acute itching and fluid-filled lesions. Heat in the blood can cause very red and swollen skin which is worse in the summer. This can be followed by dryness which causes skin to become dry and flaky and is often worse in winter. Finally, yin can become deficient which causes red, dry and cracked skin together with itchiness, increased thirst and sweating which is worse at night.

Because their organs are not fully formed, young children are particularly prone to eczema. In Chinese medicine theory, the metal element relates the lungs and lungs govern the skin. It is when the energy of the Lung is weak that the body can be invaded by external factors such as wind, heat and damp. Are Chinese Herbal Remedies Safe to Use?

Taking Chinese herbs under the guidance of a qualified practitioner is very safe, although some people have experienced adverse side effects. So do Chinese herbal remedies work for eczema? Chinese medicine practitioners have long known about the benefit of Chinese herbs for skin disease and this is only now being backed up by scientific research. Chinese herbal remedies, if prescribed by a qualified practitioner, is certainly a viable an effective alternative to conventional eczema treatments.
