Tips On Choosing Your Next Bed
Once, the bedroom was reserved for sleeping. Today, however, it is likely to also be used for watching television, working on a computer, or just unwinding at the end of the day. Most prefer a bedroom that is not only stylish but peaceful and comfortable as well. To create a room that looks and feels good, it is important to choose the furniture carefully.
Do not try to fit in more or larger pieces than the room will accommodate. Some of the larger beds, such as a queen sleigh bed or four poster can make a small room feel crowded. If you have a small bedroom, opt for just a headboard. You might consider choosing a chest rather than a dresser, placing a mirror on the wall if one is desired.
Should you have a large enough room, a sleigh bed is both cozy and elegant. The traditional ones have rolls on the head and foot boards, and need to be matched with other furniture that fits the scale. Opt for dressers or chest with bowed fronts to compliment the lines of the bed.
Sleigh beds are a more modern style than some traditional furniture. They were first built during the early nineteenth century, but they were designed for one. They were the equivalent of the day bed of today. Canopy beds, which preceded them, often had heavy curtains which could be drawn to block cold drafts. Both styles are available in modern interpretations that feature not only wood but also leather and metal. Finishes were traditionally dark, such as cherry or walnut, but new models can be found in a full range of colors.
Wicker headboards can add an airy, casual feeling to the bedroom. They are most often painted white, which can help brighten a dark room. Headboards covered in fabric can be used for the same purpose or to make a more dramatic statement when a darker color is chosen.
Select the proper bedding to suit the style you have chosen. A canopy or four post bed looks best with a bedspread. A quilt or comforter works better for the sleigh styles. The finish is also a factor, since white or light stains usually look better with pale to medium colors.
It is not uncommon for bedroom furniture to be kept until it is no longer functional. As such, consider that you may need to sleep in the bed you choose for many years. If you take a little time to select a style you can live with, you will probably be more satisfied in the long term.
